Kids’ barefoot shoes: start with fit.

From a first pair to everyday school shoes, choose for the child, the activity and the exact model. Start with a comparison, or work through the fit questions below.

A first pair
First walking shoes: when they are needed and what to check.
Wide feet or a hard-to-match shape
Compare width, toe shape and fastening. Extra length does not solve every width problem.
Finding a size
Read kids’ size charts by foot length, then check the model’s instructions.
Sensory preferences
Consider seams, fastening and individual comfort.
Understanding the category

Make room for a fit check

A useful shortlist starts with measurements. Record both feet, then compare the exact model’s size chart.

Compare features, then check the actual fit

  • Toe space: compare the shoe’s shape and width information, not just a “wide” label.
  • Fastening: consider how securely the pair stays on and whether the child can manage the closure.
  • Sole and use: check flexibility, protection and weather information for the intended activity.
  • Retailer terms: check the current size chart, delivery region and return conditions before ordering.

A barefoot label does not establish that a shoe is suitable for every child. If you are concerned about pain, walking or development, seek individual assessment; a shopping comparison cannot diagnose or treat the cause. See our guide to foot and walking concerns.

Two more kids’ collections to explore

If the index has not given you a suitable shortlist, these additional collections offer another place to look. They are outside the 30-entry comparison tool; we have not yet compiled model-by-model specifications for them. Collection pages checked September 19, 2026.

Mukishoes: compare laced and laceless options

The kids’ shop separates laced and laceless styles. Compare the exact closure, size chart and materials with your child’s needs; the category alone does not establish fit or weather protection.

Where JOYO fits in

We publish comparison guides and also sell our own children’s shoes. The kids’ index includes 14 JOYO models alongside 16 entries from other brands, with that commercial interest disclosed. It is a compilation of published information, not a hands-on test of every pair.
