Measure at Home in 2 Minutes

All you need is a sheet of paper, a pen, and a ruler. Foot length is the most reliable guide for barefoot shoes, far better than guessing by age.

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper. Place it flat against a wall and have your child stand tall with their heel touching the wall, weight evenly on both feet.
  2. Mark the heel and the longest toe. Make a small line at the very back of the heel and another at the tip of the longest toe. Keep the pen upright and snug against the foot.
  3. Measure the gap. Use a ruler to measure the distance between your two marks in centimetres (and inches if you like). That number is their foot length.
  4. Do both feet. Feet are rarely identical. Measure each one and always size to the longer foot.
  5. Measure late in the day. Feet naturally swell as the day goes on, so an afternoon or evening measurement gives the truest size.
Tip: Prefer paper in hand? Download our printable fit guide, lay your child's foot on it, and read the size straight off the chart. Just make sure your printer is set to 100 percent (no scaling).

Remember: Measure first, then add about 1 cm of growing room on top of the bare foot length. If your child's foot measures 14.5 cm, look for a shoe with an inside length of around 15.5 cm.

Tips for Growing Feet

Leave about 1 cm of room

Barefoot shoes should give toes space to spread and splay. Aim for roughly a thumb's width (about 1 cm) of room beyond the longest toe so feet can develop naturally.

Re-check every couple of months

Young feet can grow up to two sizes a year. A quick paper measurement every six to eight weeks keeps you ahead of a sudden growth spurt.

Between sizes? Go up

If the measurement lands between two sizes, choose the larger one. A little extra room is comfortable and lasts longer. Too snug restricts those growing toes.

Watch for the everyday signs

Red marks, curled toes, or shoes that suddenly come off hard usually mean it is time to size up. When in doubt, measure again.

Fit FAQ

My child is between two sizes. What should I do?

Always size up. A touch of extra room is comfortable, supports natural growth, and means the shoes last longer. A shoe that is slightly too small can cramp developing toes, so the larger size is the safer choice.

How much room should there be?

Aim for about 1 cm beyond the longest toe, roughly a thumb's width. That gives toes space to spread and leaves a little headroom for growth without the shoe slipping off.

My child has wide feet. Will these fit?

Barefoot shoes are built around a wide, foot-shaped toe box, so they suit wider feet beautifully. Fit to foot length using the chart, and the natural width will take care of the rest. If you are unsure, our team is happy to help.

How often should I remeasure?

Every six to eight weeks for toddlers and young children, who can grow surprisingly fast. For older kids, every couple of months or whenever shoes start to feel snug works well.
