Comparing Vivobarefoot vs Xero Shoes? Start with two models built for a similar job. Here we compare the women’s Primus Lite IV and Prio for everyday movement and workouts, rather than treating every shoe from either brand as interchangeable.
Research-based comparison. JOYO has not worn, measured or durability-tested these models. This is an editorial assessment of published information, not a hands-on test. Links currently earn no affiliate commission. JOYO also sells its own children’s shoes.
Our decision: shortlist Primus Lite IV if its mesh trainer design and published outsole construction match what you want. Shortlist Prio if you want its adjustable heel/instep straps and optional insole. Confirm sizing before choosing: Xero’s Prio page showed conflicting size advice during this check. Neither is a universal winner for fit.
Primus Lite IV vs Prio: the useful differences

| Insole | Ortholite insole | Optional 3 mm insole |

Need help reading the sole specifications? Our barefoot vs zero-drop checklist explains how to compare heel-to-toe drop, stack height and flexibility before choosing a model.
Sources: Vivobarefoot’s model page and Xero’s Prio page. Outsole measurements are not automatically full underfoot stack. We have not measured either shoe, so the figures cannot establish an exact difference in cushioning or ground feel.
Which one is better for wide feet?
We cannot rank these two by usable internal width from the checked information. “Wide toe box” does not answer how the shoe fits across the midfoot or over the instep. Do not use side-view photos to infer width: the pictured shoes may be different sizes.
If a shoe is tight across the forefoot but already long enough, buying a longer size may simply move the problem to the heel. Ask the retailer for the exact size’s internal measurements and whether the fastening can accommodate your instep. Use our fit and measuring guide to record the same information for both options.
Resolve the Prio sizing conflict before ordering
The checked Prio page displayed a half-size-up instruction near the size selector, but regular-size guidance in its lower sizing content. We cannot tell which instruction applies to every current variant. Send Xero your foot length, usual size, colour and intended variant and ask which recommendation applies.
This matters more than copying a size from an older Prio review. Keep the reply with your order notes, and check exchange costs in your country. A chart translating US to EU labels is not a measurement of the space inside the shoe.
Walking, workouts and wet days
For everyday wear, compare the surfaces and weather of your actual route. Xero explicitly says the Prio is not waterproof. A breathable upper on either shoe is not evidence of waterproofing. If rain protection is essential, compare a model with an explicit weather specification instead.
For gym use, our research does not establish lateral hold, grip on your gym floor or comfort through a long session. Those are try-on and use questions. Read the Primus Lite IV specification review for the limits of its published information.
Compare the complete purchase
Choose the same delivery country before comparing prices. Add shipping and any import charges, then check the conditions for trying on, returning and exchanging a pair. Promotional prices can vary by colour and size; we do not freeze a temporary discount into a “cheapest brand” verdict.
Common questions
Is Vivobarefoot better than Xero?
That depends on the model and fit. This comparison covers Primus Lite IV Womens and Prio Women; it does not rank every shoe from either brand.
Can I order the same size in both?
Do not assume that. Compare model instructions and your measurements, and resolve the conflicting Prio sizing advice with Xero before ordering.
Which has the thinner sole?
The published numbers describe different components. They do not provide a controlled comparison of complete stack height or measured underfoot feel.
